Civil Engineering
Department of Civil Engineering
In the early days of civil engineering as a profession, engineers were often promoters of projects themselves, being responsible for fund raising and gaining political acceptance for a scheme, thus serving the role of both client and professional in ‘progressing’ society, where virtually any civil engineering works were clearly of benefit to the wider social good. However, with the passage of time scope of civil engineering has now got diversified into many branches of study. Some of the significant ones include structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, transportation engineering, hydraulic engineering, environmental engineering and a few more important areas of study.
Today civil Engineers are employed by a wide range of services from small start up businesses focused on a new invention idea to large-scale companies that work on immense contracts. Apart from structures on land and general transportation systems, civil engineers are also responsible for building good transportation systems for flow of water, i.e. the water distribution systems.
The main activities in this undertaking are designing pipelines for flow of water, drainage facilities, canals, dams, etc. Dams are a major source for non-conventional source of electricity and are hence in high demand today. While designing these structures, the civil engineers take into account the various properties of fluids to calculate the forces acting at different points. With the aim to train young minds and make them adept with the latest technological developments and advances in the arena of Civil Engineering the Department of Civil Engineering was established at BBDNITM in the year 2007.
Currently a whole new methodology of teaching coupled with practical and industrial exposure is being evolved in the civil engineering department with a pool of competent and experienced resources specialized in Structural Engineering,Transportation Engineering, Hydraulics, Environmental Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Remote Sensing and GIS, etc. that have been roped in to transform the students into Industry ready resources.
Departmental Facilities
About Us Since the origination of the first civilization man has been constantly providing solutions to his various needs. Beginning with the very basic needs of ‘food, clothing and shelter’ to the modern day needs of gadgets and gizmos, man’s every pursuit has been met with his “Earnest and Dedication”. Motivated by the same dedication to excel in this pursuit, Department of Civil Engineering was established at BBDNITM in the year 2007. With the aim to train young minds and make them adept with the latest technological developments and advances in the arena of Civil Engineering, a whole new methodology of teaching coupled with practical and industrial exposure was evolved.
